IN  MEMORY OF  DAVID LAU,  PRESIDENT OF
OTTAWA LUNG KONG TIN YEE ASSOCIATION

Mr. David Lau was born in October, 1943 in the Toy Shan municipality of Guangdong Province in southern China.  He was the
4th amongst seven brothers and sisters.  David went to school in Hong Kong when he was young.  He immigrated to Canada in 1969,
first to Vancouver, then to Brockville, Ontario.  He graduated in 1975 from St-Lawrence College in Brockville from the Electrical
Power Engineering Technology program.  In May, 1975, he moved to Ottawa and began his career of 32 years as a civil servant at
Measurement Canada, a division within Industry Canada.  As Senior Legal Metrologist, he was responsible for the inspection and
approval of complex electrical transformers all across Canada.

In 1973, David married Miss Joanne Law in Brockville.  They have two children.  Their daughter Lisa is now working.  Their son
Andy is studying at the University of Ottawa.  Davidˇ¦s brother Chuk, sisters Sandra, Wendy, and Winnie and families now reside in
San Francisco.  His brother Winston and family live in Brockville, and younger brother Steven and family live in Los Angeles.

David was always very fit and healthy.  Last December, he suddenly felt pain on his leg.  Initially, his doctor thought it was caused
by arthritis.  In mid-March, he was admitted to Civic Hospital because of a broken bone.  Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with a more
severe illness.  David passed away on May 7, 2007.  He was 63 years old.

David had an outgoing personality.  He had displayed great enthusiasm and was very energetic in helping others both at work and
also in the community.  At Measurement Canada, David participated in union activities for the benefit of his co-workers.  He had served
the posts of Union President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Chief Stewart over the years.  He organized many Union Annual Meetings
and was on the Executive Committee for the Visible Minority for Industry Canada.  He had received many awards of recognition for his
work, such as Leadership Award, Best Citizenship Award and Peopleˇ¦s Choice Award.  As a member of the Liberal party, he
campaigned for the Ottawa Center riding during several federal elections.

Davidˇ¦s contribution in the Ottawa Chinese community was particularly impressive.  For well over 20 years, he was recognized as a
prominent leader.  Everybody in our community knows Mr. David Lau, or ˇ§Big Brother Lauˇ¨.  He was one of the founders of the Ching
Hua Chinese School in 1984.  Then he served as Chairman of the Board for many years.  He was actually the President of the Ottawa
Lung Kong Tin Yee Association, Vice-President of the East Ontario Toy Shan Association and Vice-President of the Ottawa Beechwood
Chinese Memorial Garden Fund.  David also held executive positions outside of Ottawa.  He was Chief of Supervisory Committee for the
Pan American Lung Kong Tin Yee Association and Vice-President of the Lung Kong World Federation.  In September, 2001, David was
Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Pan American Lung Kong 16th Fraternal Convention held in Ottawa. Over 160 delegates and
300 family members and friends from major cities of North America and other parts of the world came to celebrate and propagate the Lung
Kong spirit of brotherhood and family reunion. The Convention was a big success, and it had received extensive media coverage and was
one of the largest and most successful Chinese events held in the City of Ottawa.

We will all remember David as a great friend.  His love, compassion, wisdom and devotion will be forever engraved in our hearts.
